Additional information about Maternal Line:
The mother of Hugh Elmer Edwars was Zudia Blanch (nee Smith) Edwards, the daughter of Henry Clay Smith and Fredonia (nee Norris) Smith, who was the daughter of William Washington "Wash" Norris and Elizabeth (nee Balthrope) Norris. All above named persons are buried in Dickson Co., TN and are thought to have lived their entire lives in or around the same northwestern area of Dickson County, TN. The Norris and Balthrope families were early settlers (ca. 1800) in the Yellow Creek valley of--then Montgomery but now--Dickson County, TN. They immigrated from North Carolina (probably Duplin Co.). The exact relationship of Elizabeth Balthrope to the earliest Balthrope immigrants to Middle Tennessee (Montgomery Co., now the northern part of Dickson Co.) is belived to be the niece of pioneer William Balthrop, the first settler on Blathrop Branch. She was a brother of David Eps Balthrop. [Source: Nesbitt, Wm. J. 1985. "The Primal Families of the Yellow Creek Valley," p588. Vanleer, TN]
